The State Of The African Diaspora officially recognised by Liberia

Monrovia – June 8th 2020. The State of the African Diaspora (SOAD) is now officially recognised by the Republic of Liberia. The decision was made unanimously by the Council of ministers, and signed by the Deputy Minister for International Cooperation, Hon. Abraham K. Korvah Sr. As it is stated in the document, « the Republic of Liberia recognizes the State of the African Diaspora and the essential contribution of the Diaspora to Africa ». After Mauritania, Somalia, the Maroon States in Jamaica, it is another achievement for the SOAD that was launched only two years ago.

The Prime Minister of the SOAD, Dr Louis-Georges Tin, declared :  ‘‘I would like to thank President Weah and the Government of Liberia for this great honour. They are preparing the future not only of Liberia, but of Africa and we want to bring all our energy to support the people. We have different programs of cooperation we will implement in the country about economy, education, culture, etc. Africa and Diaspora working hand-in-hand : that is Pan-africanism in action !’’

The man behind this recognition is Ambassador Roland Goprou. He was the first nominated Ambassador in the context of SOAD, in July 2018. He was with the Prime Minister in Mauritania, when the SOAD was launched and now, again, he has shown his great dedication and efficiency by negotiating this agreement.

‘‘This is a great honour and a great joy, for Liberia is the first African country that became independent. So it is a very strong symbol’’ Mr Goprou stated.

The cooperation will start in a few weeks.

‘‘We will reinforce Liberia through the African Diaspora, and the African Diaspora through Liberia’’, the Prime Minister concluded.
