Greetings and salutations to all with respect and acknowledgment of those committed with the dedication to make the journey home to the Motherland, our first place of visit to Ghana – The Gateway to Africa!!

On our itinerary we were scheduled on Wednesday, November 26, 2021 to visit the Palace of Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu, Asantehene of the Ashanti Empire of Ghana enstooled April 26, 1999 the highest, powerful King in the land. He is also the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology – Kumasi. He is an Ashanti King, and an invitation and acceptance to the Palace is not to be taken lightly. Therefore, our esteemed leaders, VPM Johnson, Foreign Minister Kenyama Brown in collaboration with our own Paramount Chief Nana Moses elected to send a small delegation team domiciled in Ghana to represent SOAD in the unfortunate absence of the delegation from Jamaica

The delegation consisted of our own Nana Moses, officially known as Nana Kissi Amoah Chief of Seniagya, Queen Mother Bonuedi Ama Mawusi, Surrogate Queen Mother of the Assin Manso Traditional Area and a Queen in the SOAD Royal Chamber, Dr. Foster Larbi, and myself.  Nana Adusi Poku met us at the Palace.

We were received Royally, red carpet style. The King sent a convoy with police escort form the airport to the Palace.  The Palace was full, with organizations, schools, Chiefs, Ambassadors, Queens to have an audience with the King.  Our delegation was called forward, supported by local Chiefs about five, who explained our mission and purpose for our visit. Our Vice Prime Minister so gracefully sent a letter to His Majesty explaining our plight and difficulty in being able to achieve the planned visit to Ghana with approx 150 people.  I, as the Ambassador of SOAD, was asked to speak and I summarized VPM Johnson’s letter, also expressing our gratitude and my gratitude as a repatriate to the Motherland.

Upon trying to pronounce some local areas with my English dialect, it brought about laughter, and I was embraced with admiration and respect for my journey home.  To my surprise, myself and Queen Nana Mawusi were called forward, as the King wanted to speak with us.

We graciously approached the Throne, heads bowed in respect he spoke from His heart, that he understood the Mission of the Diaspora (SOAD) and he fully supports us. He continued for about two minutes saying that he would support us in every way possible and exclaimed his happiness that we came to the Palace. He further stated that he would arrange a private meeting through Nana Moses for a private meeting with SOAD to discuss our initiatives and plans

As we returned to our seats, we were then escorted by servants to greet the Queen Mother who bestowed a blessing upon each of us. When shared with VPM Johnson, he exclaimed “the stars are aligned”!

Thanks to the Almighty God and our Ancestors for blessing us with favor. We are grateful to bring this positive and successful report!!

Respectfully, Ambassador Millie

Special thanks to Nana Moses and Nana Poku for such a grand first-class reception!!
