The State of the African Diaspora (SOAD) has more than 150 Ambassadors in Africa and in the rest of the world. But in some countries, SOAD has a stronger presence, through special offices called the Diplomatic Missions.
SOAD has several Diplomatic Missions already established in United Kingdom, Malta, Trinidad, Canada. In the coming months, more are expected to be inaugurated in Turkey, Ireland, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Uganda, Ecuador, and other countries. These Diplomatic Missions are meant to create and reinforce the diplomatic relationships between SOAD and the host countries.
On January 17th 202, during the General Assembly of the Ambassadors, Mrs Millie Tucker, Minister in charge of the State Departement, presented a new document : the SOAD policy regarding establishment of diplomatic missions and embassies. As stated in its introduction, the policy means to provide « guidelines and framework to lay the foundation for the establishment of our diplomatic missions and embassies, to foster stronger ties between SOAD and nations of the Diaspora and on the Continent of Africa ».
The policy explores different aspects such as government approval, selection of a location for the diplomatic mission or the embassy, leaderhip, staffing, infrastructure, security measures, inauguration, relationships with host country, etc.
