Dr.Dinesh Sabnis, Minister of Sports of SOAD

Question-1 : Could you introduce yourself?

I am a former Government Officer from the Government of India and have represented Mumbai, India, at the national level in the sport of cricket. For the past 14 years, I have been engaged in projects related to Education Diplomacy and Sports Diplomacy, collaborating with educational and sports organizations, as well as intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiatives concerning education, sports, diplomacy, international relations, and youth development.

I currently hold a position at the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) for organizations with UN Consultative Status and have established strong connections with various governmental and non-governmental entities in the fields of education and sports to further promote these areas.

Additionally, I have authored a book titled “Sports Coaching Simplified,” which is recognized on platforms such as Google Books, Amazon, and Flipkart, aimed at the sports coaching community.

In the State of African Diaspora (SOAD), I was initially appointed as the Ambassador to India, subsequently serving as the Chief of Staff for the Ministry of Sports, and I have now been given the opportunity to serve as the Minister of Sports in SOAD. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the SOAD Cabinet Board and the Honorable Prime Minister for their trust in me and for offering me this esteemed position within the Ministry of Sports.

Question-2 : What is your vision of Panafricanism?

The concept of Pan-Africanism embodies a political and cultural movement dedicated to the unification of African peoples, both on the continent and in the diaspora, with the aim of fostering solidarity and collective action. This can be achieved through various mechanisms, such as bilateral and multilateral agreements. Furthermore, events, summits, and sessions play a crucial role in reinforcing the connections between nations.

I intend to concentrate on Pan-African Sports Diplomacy, which can be utilized as a means to cultivate unity, cooperation, and advancement among African nations. I am enthusiastic about enhancing this initiative through diverse strategies, including Political and Economic Collaborations, Youth Development Initiatives, International Representation, and Cultural Gatherings.

Question-3 : Who is your favorite Character in Panafrican history and why?

I hold in high regard His Excellency Kofi Annan, a distinguished Ghanaian diplomat who served as the Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006. He was the first individual from sub-Saharan Africa to occupy this esteemed position and was widely respected for his significant contributions to global diplomacy and peacekeeping initiatives.

Throughout his tenure, Annan played a pivotal role in numerous international endeavors, including the promotion of human rights, the advancement of sustainable development, and the response to critical issues such as HIV/AIDS. His leadership was characterized by efforts to reform the United Nations and address some of the most urgent global challenges.

In recognition of his contributions, Annan was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001, which he shared with the United Nations, for his work in revitalizing the organization and fostering peace and security on a global scale.

I firmly believe in the wisdom of Kofi Annan’s statement: “We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to one human race.” This quote encapsulates the idea that unity among humanity can lead to extraordinary achievements. I am committed to embodying this principle in my actions during my tenure in the Sports Ministry.

Question-4 : With the onset of technology and investment in Africa how do you see Africa in the 21st Century?

The past few years have seen considerable growth and transformation in Africa’s technology and investment sectors, with particular emphasis on Agriculture, Renewable Energy, Infrastructure, Education & Vocational Skills.

Sports development in Africa has also progressed notably in the 21st century, marked by achievements alongside ongoing challenges, particularly in Sports Infrastructure, Grassroots Development Programs, Technological Enhancements, Gender Equality Projects, and Youth Development and Exposure. For sustainable development in sports, it is imperative to focus on research-based initiatives and to advocate for support and funding from governmental and non-governmental entities.
